The sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France has traditionally been the bottle popped for festive celebrations. For many, culminating a New Year countdown is seldom complete without uncorking one of these chilled bubblies.
Champagne is characterized by varying sweetness levels, from the very dry Brut to the extremely sweet Doux. When choosing a champagne for your New Year’s party, you should opt for one of the sweeter bottles if you’re not planning to use it as a cocktail mix. For use with other spirits and liqueur in cocktail recipes, however, it’s always best to go with a Simple Brut (dry and no sweetness) or a Brut (very dry).
